Le nomination ai Grammys e la polemica di The Weeknd

La 63esima edizione dei Grammy Awards si svolgerà il 31 gennaio 2021 e le statuette saranno assegnate agli artisti che, secondo la Recording Academy giudicante, hanno prodotto la musica migliore nell’intervallo compreso tra il 1° settembre 2019 e il 31 agosto 2020.

Al momento non è dato sapere se la cerimonia di premiazione avverrà con il pubblico presente o in streaming, molto dipenderà dall’andamento della pandemia mondiale causata dal Covid-19.

In ogni caso le nomination sono sempre materia di discussione. E’ di queste ultime ore la forte dichiarazione di The Weeknd (autore con After Hours di uno dei migliori album usciti recentemente), che su Twitter ha attaccato l’Academy che annualmente seleziona i candidati: “I Grammys rimangono corrotti e gli organizzatori hanno obbligo di trasparenza nei confronti miei, dei miei fan e del settore“.

Poco dopo, Harvey Mason Jr., presidente della Recording Academy, ha dichiarato a Rolling Stone: “Capiamo che The Weeknd possa essere rimasto deluso per la mancata nomination (…) La sua musica quest’anno è stata eccellente (…) ma ogni volta ai Grammys ci sono meno nomination rispetto al numero di artisti meritevoli“.
